Investigators also revealed they were examining a trip the 21-year-old made to the Santa Barbara area in spring 2025, which occurred after Hernandez’s death. Initially, a representative for Burke stated in September that he was cooperating fully with investigators. However, by Nov. 18, NBC Los Angeles reported that he was no longer assisting law enforcement.
The investigation began when officers responded to a tow yard on Sept. 8 following complaints about a strong odor coming from a vehicle that had been sitting there for several days. Upon inspection, police discovered a dismembered body placed inside a bag in the front trunk.
Records showed the Tesla was registered to Burke in Hempstead, Texas. It had been towed after being abandoned in the Hollywood Hills, where residents had reported a foul smell. By Sept. 9, authorities had classified the situation as a death investigation.
Hernandez had previously been reported missing from her residence in Lake Elsinore, California. According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, she was last seen in April 2024. At the time her body was located, officials stated that the manner of death had not yet been established.
In the aftermath of the discovery, Burke quietly called off his U.S. tour and delayed promotional plans for his deluxe album.
