WNBA All-Star Angel Reese Joins Netflix Drama The Hunting Wives

‎Netflix’s The Hunting Wives is bringing a new star into its orbit for season two.
‎Angel Reese, a two-time WNBA All-Star, has joined the cast of the provocative drama series. She will take on a co-starring role known as “Trainer Barbie” in the upcoming season.
‎Fronted by Brittany Snow and Malin Akerman, the series became a surprise hit for Netflix over the summer. Season two is currently in production in the United States. Netflix previously acquired the show from Starz before the first season premiered, and the streamer will now release the eight-episode second season exclusively as a Netflix-branded title in almost all regions where Netflix operates. No premiere date has been confirmed.

‎Reese joins a list of newly announced additions that includes John Stamos, Kim Matula, Alex FitzAlan, Dale Dickey, and Cam Gigandet.
‎Often referred to as “Bayou Barbie,” Reese gained national recognition while leading LSU to the 2023 NCAA women’s basketball championship. She now plays for the Chicago Sky in the WNBA, where she is a two-time All-Star and was named to the All-Rookie Team in 2024.
‎Returning cast members for the new season include Jaime Ray Newman, Dermot Mulroney, Evan Jonigkeit, George Ferrier, Karen Rodriguez, Hunter Emery, and Branton Box.
‎The series was created by Rebecca Cutter and is based on May Cobb’s bestselling novel. Produced by Lionsgate Television and 3 Arts Entertainment, the show originally began development at Starz before moving to Netflix.
‎The Hunting Wives follows a group of upper-class Texas women who spend their time shooting guns, drinking, partying — and killing people. One month after its July 21 debut, it became the most-watched streaming series in the United States.
‎Season one ended on a dramatic cliffhanger when Sophie (Snow), while driving under the influence, crashed into Margo’s (Akerman) brother. The accident may have resulted in another fatal DUI for Sophie, putting her family’s future and her intense relationship with Margo in serious danger.
‎The season two logline states: “At the start of season two, Sophie and Margo are on the outs. But soon enough, old secrets and new foes force them back together. As they play their dangerous games the question arises. Are they the hunters or the hunted?”
‎Cutter serves as showrunner, writer, and executive producer on the series. Additional executive producers include Erwin Stoff for 3 Arts Entertainment and May Cobb.
