Speaking alongside Jimmy Fallon during NBCUniversal’s upfront presentation at Radio City Music Hall, Diesel told advertisers that fans have spent years asking for more stories centered on the franchise’s legacy characters.
“For the last decade, we have realized that the fans have wanted more,” Diesel said. “They wanted us to expand the legacy characters, their stories. And for the last decade, the desire has been for us to enter the TV space.”
He then revealed what he described as a major expansion for the franchise.
“The news that I have here today is that Peacock is launching four shows from the Fast and Furious universe,” Diesel said.
Diesel explained that he had waited for the right moment to bring the franchise into television. According to him, that opportunity arrived after Donna Langley expanded her oversight responsibilities. Diesel praised Langley for protecting “the integrity of the characters” while also maintaining the franchise’s “international appeal.”
The actor is attached as an executive producer on the currently developing series alongside Sam Vincent, Neal Moritz, Pavun Shetty, Jeff Kirschenbaum and Chris Morgan. Mike Daniels and Wolfe Coleman will serve as co-showrunners.
The upcoming project’s brief description currently reads, “More to come…,” offering little information about the series itself. The show will be produced through Universal Television.
The Universal Pictures franchise has earned more than $7 billion globally at the box office, according to NBCUniversal. The studio also describes Fast & Furious as its longest-running and “most-profitable” franchise.
The next film in the series, Fast Forever, is currently scheduled for release in 2028. NBCUniversal also announced that the Fast franchise will soon debut its first rollercoaster attraction at Universal Studios.
Additional announcements made during Monday’s presentation included the 2027 return of BravoCon, a new Vanderpump Rules spinoff, and a second-season renewal for The Real Housewives of Rhode Island. NBC also unveiled its fall television schedule.
