Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige appeared during Disney’s presentation finale to introduce the film, explaining that Doomsday continues the storyline established in Avengers: Endgame. He also emphasized the significance of bringing together the Avengers and X-Men in a shared cinematic moment.
The film is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, marking their return to the MCU. Written by Michael Waldron and Stephen McFeely, the project reintroduces Doctor Doom as a highly intelligent and calculated force. Joe Russo described the character as one of Marvel’s most layered antagonists, always operating several steps ahead of everyone else.
A dramatic moment followed when Robert Downey Jr. stepped onto the stage to the sound of the Rolling Stones’ “Sympathy for the Devil.” The actor, previously known for portraying Iron Man, spoke about returning to Marvel in a completely different identity and praised the reunion with the creative team.
Attendees were then shown early footage revealing Downey’s Doctor Doom fully masked for the first time. In the clip, Thor delivers a warning to the heroes, stressing that unity will be essential as they face an enemy capable of overwhelming even the strongest among them.
The teaser included a surprise twist involving Chris Evans, who interrupts Thor during the scene and takes hold of his hammer, leaving the group stunned. Evans later appeared on stage and lightly dismissed Doom while acknowledging the seriousness of the looming threat.
Earlier promotional teasers had already generated massive global attention, focusing on characters like Steve Rogers, Thor, Shuri, and members of the X-Men and Fantastic Four universes. Those previews reportedly accumulated billions of online views combined, even without revealing Downey’s return as Doom.
Avengers: Doomsday is set for release on December 18 and is already being discussed as one of 2026’s strongest box office contenders. The film reunites key creatives behind Infinity War and Endgame, including the Russo brothers and several returning cast members.
During the presentation, Disney also addressed speculation about a possible delay due to premium format scheduling conflicts. Instead, the company confirmed it will move forward with its release plans while developing a new premium theatrical standard called Infinity: Vision Logos.
This new system is designed to compete with IMAX and Dolby formats by certifying high-quality screening experiences across theaters. It will launch alongside a re-release of Avengers: Endgame, signaling Disney’s push into premium cinema branding.
