The episode begins with Belly living in Paris, away from her family, Cousins Beach, and the memories tied to her past. On the day before her 22nd birthday, Conrad surprises her with a visit before heading to a medical conference in Brussels. Their reunion starts cautiously, with Belly hesitant to let her guard down, but they gradually reconnect while exploring the city together.
When Conrad asks to see her personal Paris, Belly takes him to a rooftop that holds special meaning for her. The two open up about the year since her called-off wedding to Jeremiah, leading to an invitation to Belly’s birthday dinner. Their bond strengthens throughout the evening, culminating in an intimate walk along the Seine where they reminisce, dance, and share a kiss. Taylor Swift’s “Dress” underscores the moment as they return to Belly’s apartment, where they spend the night together.
The next morning, the couple faces a pivotal conversation. Belly admits her fear that their love may be influenced by Susannah’s wishes rather than their true feelings. Conrad reassures her otherwise, but her uncertainty leads him to leave for Brussels. Left alone, Belly sees the necklace Conrad once gave her and realizes her love for him has remained constant. She rushes to the train station, finding him before departure, and the two finally exchange “I love you.”
Beyond Belly and Conrad, the finale provides closure for other characters. Steven and Taylor begin a new life together in San Francisco, Denise and Jeremiah form a relationship, and Laurel, Adam, and John find contentment in singlehood. The story closes with a glimpse of Belly and Conrad at Cousins Beach, followed by snapshots of them celebrating Christmas in Paris.
Although the series does not mirror the books’ wedding conclusion, creator Jenny Han ended with a message to fans. She thanked viewers for their support and hinted that Cousins Beach might not be gone forever.
