Akon's Wife Tomeka Thiam Files for Divorce Ahead of 29th Wedding Anniversary

‎Akon’s wife, Tomeka Thiam, has officially filed for divorce from the Grammy-nominated artist just days before their 29th wedding anniversary.
‎Court documents show that Thiam cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the filing. The news was first reported by TMZ.

‎The couple, married since September 15, 1996, share one minor child together, a 17-year-old daughter named Journey. According to the filing, Thiam is seeking joint legal custody and sole physical custody of Journey. She is also requesting spousal support while asking the court to deny Akon, whose legal name is Aliaune Badara Thiam, any support from her.
‎The filing highlights the long-running public curiosity about Akon’s personal life. During a previous interview with DJ Vlad, the Senegalese artist acknowledged having nine children — seven sons and two daughters. At the time, he joked about leaving the public guessing regarding his relationships, saying he preferred the speculation surrounding his family life.
‎Outside of his personal matters, Akon has recently shared details about his latest music project. Earlier this year, he revealed plans to reimagine his entire catalog in the country music genre. Speaking to TMZ, he explained that country artists will perform the remixed songs, with him featured on the tracks. Akon noted that the idea has been in development for years and that new releases are set to roll out starting soon.
