Latto shares her realest relationship advice yet and opens up about her next chapter in music

‎Latto recently shared her perspective on relationships, self-growth, and artistry following the launch of a playful D’USSÉ campaign that stirred conversation around her personal life. Appearing in a light-hearted short film, she took the opportunity to address long-standing curiosity about her romantic partner in a creative way—revealing her “mystery man” to be none other than the D’USSÉ VSOP Magnum Edition bottle.

‎Speaking with Billboard on a summer Friday, Latto brought a mix of authenticity and self-assurance to the conversation. Having just released her first solo single of 2025, titled “Somebody,” and with a new project in motion, she embraced the moment as a winning season worth celebrating.
‎The D’USSÉ ad plays on years of speculation about her love life. In a dimly lit booth, Latto confidently praises her “date” for being “rich, bold and smooth.” The campaign leans into themes of dating and connection, which made the timing ideal for her to dive into her views on modern romance, her personal values, and what it truly takes to be with a woman like her.
‎When asked about what defines a “win” both professionally and personally, Latto noted that both spheres of her life feel aligned. Whether it’s enjoying a D’USSÉ Peach Lemonade with good food and her partner or immersing herself in music and creativity, she expressed that the elements of joy remain consistent.
‎The idea behind revealing her mystery man as a bottle was rooted in the internet's ongoing curiosity. “People are nosy,” she said. “So when D’USSÉ wanted to play off that, I was like, sure, why not tease the people?”

‎Latto doubled down on the attributes she values in a romantic partner, echoing her line from the teaser, “it’s not just anybody.” To her, the ideal companion is rich in spirit, bold, carries big energy, and exudes smoothness and confidence. These traits, she explained, make someone stand out from the rest.
‎Speaking on how dating has shifted, particularly given her visibility, she offered a piece of advice: focus on self-development. “I stumbled upon my person by just investing in and building myself up,” she said, noting that authenticity attracts the right energy. She emphasized the importance of being in alignment with oneself before seeking out a partner.
‎The internet often jokes about “locking down Latto,” but she believes loyalty and confidence are at the heart of building something real. A man’s self-respect, his ability to carry himself well, and his dedication to the relationship are crucial. For her, confidence ranks first, followed by unwavering loyalty.
‎First dates, she said, should be discreet yet public. In a world of constant speculation, she prefers a private vibe in a public setting—like a movie or dinner—where the pressure of being seen together is minimized. “We know how quick people put two and two together,” she remarked.
‎Latto has long kept her relationship out of the spotlight, and she stands by that decision. Privacy, she believes, is essential to keeping a relationship grounded. “Evil eyes are real,” she stated, pointing out that unsolicited attention can create unnecessary tension. Keeping matters between two people, she said, builds strength in the bond.
‎To celebrate the one-year anniversary of her project Sugar Honey Iced Tea, Latto released the music video for “Chicken Grease.” Selecting which video to shoot was a challenge, but the track’s energy made it a natural fit for summer. The visuals blend Southern influence with island energy, having been filmed in both Atlanta and Turks and Caicos. T.I. also makes an appearance in the video, reinforcing its Southern roots.

‎Looking ahead to her next musical phase, Latto acknowledged that she’s embracing a new era. She described Sugar Honey Iced Tea as a tribute to her hometown, but she hinted that the next body of work will represent something distinct. Though details remain under wraps, she assured that evolution is happening.
‎She avoided revealing specifics about the project, preferring not to speak on elements that may still shift. She shared that she’s in the recording process and feeling creatively energized. Recent trips to Europe and Turks have contributed to a refreshed mindset, and her new music reflects that blend of influence and inspiration.
‎Personal experiences deeply shape her songwriting. Latto admitted she frequently jots down lyrics and ideas in her Notes app as life unfolds. Whether it’s a trip abroad or a quiet moment with a drink in hand, those snapshots find their way into her music. “It’s 100% authentic, always with me,” she said.
‎Visual presentation continues to be a cornerstone of her artistry. Though she didn’t offer many specifics, she promised the new rollout will match her high standards and aesthetic. “I’m fine s—t, so it’s always gonna be some fine s—t in the video,” she added.
‎Women in rap continue to shape the genre’s direction, but Latto acknowledged the ongoing double standards. She noted that women still have to work twice as hard to earn the same recognition, but she remains unfazed by the pressure. “We’re running s—t,” she said, emphasizing that women in the game are moving forward regardless of outdated barriers.
