‎HBO has begun filming a TV series based on the Harry Potter saga, with each season set to cover one book from Harry’s time at Hogwarts. The cast has been completely reimagined, featuring new actors in the iconic roles originally made famous by the film series. Notably, the adult characters are being portrayed by actors closer in age to how they were written in the books.
‎Here is a rundown of the confirmed cast members so far, along with side-by-side comparisons to the actors from the original films. Some major characters — like Lord Voldemort, who only appears late in the first book — have yet to be announced.

The main villain of the franchise hasn’t been officially cast yet, but a compelling question is when the chosen actor will make their first appearance. In the original film series, Voldemort didn’t fully appear in human form until the fourth movie, Goblet of Fire, played by Ralph Fiennes. However, his face is briefly shown at the end of the first film (played by Richard Bremmer), and a younger version of the character, Tom Riddle, appears in the second film (played by Christian Coulson). Since the current production has already cast characters who originally appeared much later in the story, it’s entirely possible that an actor has already been selected to portray Voldemort throughout the series, even if that casting hasn’t been made public yet.
