Tom Holland teases 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' will take fans back to where it all began
Tom Holland has revealed new details about the highly anticipated Spider-Man: Brand New Day, hinting that the upcoming fourth installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Spider-Man saga will signal a creative reset. Holland described the project as a refreshing shift, both narratively and visually, emphasizing a return to the fundamentals of traditional filmmaking.

During an appearance on the YouTube series Flip Your Wig, Holland shared his enthusiasm about reprising the role of Peter Parker, especially after the emotionally charged finale of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Following that storyline, Parker now exists in anonymity, with even his closest friends unaware of his identity. Reflecting on the challenges faced during the last film’s production, Holland expressed excitement about leaving behind the constraints of soundstage shooting.
He noted that health and safety protocols during the pandemic heavily influenced the filming of No Way Home, which was shot entirely indoors. This time around, however, the production team aims to ground the film in tangible environments. “We’re really gonna lean into that old-school filmmaking and shoot in real locations,” Holland said. “We’re starting in Glasgow and using its streets to build a massive set-piece. It’ll feel like making the first Spider-Man all over again.”
The actor’s remarks suggest a strong creative pivot. By stepping away from green-screen-heavy production and embracing authentic urban backdrops, Brand New Day is poised to reconnect with the raw energy that defined Holland’s earlier outings as the web-slinger. This strategy is expected to invigorate the franchise and deepen its emotional impact.
The narrative trajectory of the MCU’s Spider-Man franchise has evolved dramatically since its debut. Spider-Man: No Way Home, released in 2021, directly followed the events of Far From Home, in which Peter Parker’s secret identity was exposed to the world. A botched spell cast by Doctor Strange unleashed a ripple across the multiverse, leading to the return of classic villains—and beloved past Spider-Men portrayed by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. In the film’s climactic sacrifice, Parker chose to have everyone forget him to restore order to reality.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled for release on July 31, 2026. The film will be directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, known for his work on Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Returning to the production team are longtime collaborators Amy Pascal and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige. Zendaya is also confirmed to reprise her role alongside Holland, with production slated to begin following the duo’s involvement in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming epic The Odyssey.
The film will introduce new characters played by Stranger Things star Sadie Sink and Liza Colón-Zayas of The Bear, though details remain under wraps. The casting choices hint at an expansion of the Spider-Man universe with fresh dynamics and complex narratives.
Spider-Man: No Way Home shattered records in its run, grossing $1.95 billion globally and securing its place as the seventh highest-earning film of all time. The stakes for Brand New Day are high, but with its renewed artistic direction and nostalgic leanings, the project is generating considerable excitement within the fan community and the broader industry.
