Both Patino and Wiener conveyed their deep connection to the Assassin’s Creed universe, highlighting the rich storytelling potential beyond the franchise’s signature action and parkour elements. Their vision focuses on fundamental human themes such as the search for identity, questions of destiny and faith, and the complexities of power, violence, and revenge. They underscored the show’s attention to human connection across cultures and eras, reflecting on what humanity risks losing when those bonds are severed. The creative team is backed by Ubisoft and Netflix executives committed to delivering a globally resonant series.
Alongside Patino and Wiener, executive producers Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, Austin Dill from Ubisoft Film & Television, and Matt O’Toole will oversee the project. The original Assassin’s Creed game debuted in 2007, achieving instant success and spawning 14 main titles, with the most recent installment titled Assassin’s Creed: Shadows released in 2025. A feature film starring Michael Fassbender premiered in 2016, expanding the franchise’s reach beyond gaming.
The series is described as a narrative centered on a clandestine conflict between two secret factions—one manipulating humanity’s future through control, the other defending free will. Storylines will traverse significant historical events, following characters caught in this epic struggle to determine the fate of mankind.
Peter Friedlander, Netflix’s vice president of scripted series, recalled the partnership launch with Ubisoft in 2020, stressing the ambition to bring Assassin’s Creed to life in innovative ways. He praised the creative team’s efforts in crafting a compelling adventure that honors the game’s legacy and invites both dedicated fans and newcomers to experience the saga’s immersive world.
The franchise’s games focus on the age-old rivalry between the Assassins and Templars, who use advanced technology to access ancestral memories in search of powerful artifacts known as Pieces of Eden. This premise will serve as a foundation for the series’ intricate storytelling.
Margaret Boykin, executive producer and head of content at Ubisoft Film & Television, voiced enthusiasm about collaborating with Patino, Wiener, and Netflix to faithfully translate the beloved franchise into a new medium. She anticipates an experience that captures the essence of Assassin’s Creed while attracting a diverse global audience.
Roberto Patino’s notable credits include HBO Max’s miniseries DMZ and the Netflix limited series Zero Day, featuring Robert De Niro. He has also contributed to acclaimed series such as Westworld and Sons of Anarchy. David Wiener brings extensive experience as showrunner of Halo Season 2 on Paramount+ and work on Peacock’s Brave New World, as well as writing for Fear the Walking Dead and Homecoming.
Representation for the creators includes WME, 3 Arts Entertainment, and Goodman Genow for Patino, and UTA and TFC for Wiener.
This live-action series will be the inaugural project produced under the Netflix-Ubisoft collaboration. Prior joint efforts include the animated series Rabbids Invasion and Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix. Additionally, the animated Splinter Cell: Deathwatch series is scheduled to debut later this year.
