Tony Awards 2025 winners: Maybe Happy Ending, Sunset Blvd., Eureka Day and more triumph on Broadway's biggest night

Broadway’s biggest night honored innovation, legacy, and emotional storytelling as Maybe Happy Ending won Best Musical at the 2025 Tony Awards. The show also claimed five additional honors, making it the evening’s most awarded production.

‎Hosted by Cynthia Erivo, the ceremony celebrated theatrical excellence with top prizes going to Purpose (Best Revival of a Play), Sunset Blvd. (Best Revival of a Musical), and, in a surprise twist, Eureka Day as Best Play.
‎Darren Criss earned his first Tony Award for his leading role in Maybe Happy Ending, while Nicole Scherzinger won Best Leading Actress in a Musical for Sunset Blvd.. In the play categories, Sarah Snook (The Picture of Dorian Gray) and Cole Escola (Oh, Mary!) took home the lead acting honors.
‎Tied with 10 nominations, Maybe Happy Ending, Buena Vista Social Club, and Death Becomes Her led the field going into the evening. Buena Vista Social Club walked away with four wins, while Death Becomes Her picked up one award—Best Costume Design by Paul Tazewell—presented during the Act One preshow on Pluto TV.
‎Performances dazzled throughout the night from nominees including Gypsy, Operation Mincemeat: A New Musical, Floyd Collins, Dead Outlaw, Pirates! The Penzance Musical, Just in Time, and Real Women Have Curves. A surprise tribute performance from the original Hamilton cast marked its 10th anniversary.
‎Broadway Inspirational Voices made a moving return, and legendary figures such as Oprah, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Kristin Chenoweth, and Keanu Reeves took the stage as presenters.
‎Lifetime honors were also spotlighted: Harvey Fierstein received the Lifetime Achievement Award, and Celia Keenan-Bolger was recognized with the Isabelle Stevenson Award for advocacy in the arts. The Tony Honors for Excellence went to Great Performances, Michael Price, New 42, and The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts.
‎Special Tony Awards acknowledged the musical ensemble of Buena Vista Social Club and the illusions and technical effects team behind Stranger Things: The First Shadow.
‎Presented by the American Theatre Wing and The Broadway League, the Tony Awards continue to spotlight the innovation, impact, and resilience of live theatre.
