‎After years away from the wizarding world, the multi-talented singer and actress will return in a more central role for season two of the spinoff, which premieres this fall. Gomez announced the news with a nostalgic Instagram Story post holding a wand and captioned, “Just feels right.”
‎The original Wizards of Waverly Place, which aired from 2007 to 2012, followed the magical misadventures of the Russo siblings—Alex (Gomez), Justin (David Henrie), and Max (Jake T. Austin)—as they trained in secret wizardry under their mortal father, Jerry (David DeLuise). The series concluded with Alex winning the coveted title of Family Wizard.
‎Now, over a decade later, Wizards Beyond Waverly Place continues the Russo legacy. Created by Todd Greenwald, the spinoff launched in October 2024 and featured Henrie’s Justin Russo living a magic-free life—until he’s pulled back into wizardry by young prodigy Billie (Janice LeAnn Brown), whom Alex introduces.
‎In season one, Gomez appeared briefly in two episodes. But her expanded return in season two adds renewed excitement for longtime fans. The upcoming episodes will explore a more complex magical household, as Justin now mentors not just Billie, but two more budding wizards—Roman (Alkaio Thiele) and Milo (Max Matenko)—as they all prepare for the next Family Wizard Competition.
‎According to the season two synopsis, “Billie grapples with the fact that being part of the Russo family might be more complicated than she thought—especially now that she’s not the only wizard in the house. Thanks to Roman and Milo’s new magical powers, Justin is now tasked with training three young wizards. As the stakes rise inside and outside the family, a mysterious new threat emerges—one that could unravel the Russos forever.”
‎The creative team behind Wizards Beyond Waverly Place includes Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas as writers and executive producers, alongside Gomez, Henrie, Gary Marsh, and Jonas Agin. The revival promises to blend humor, heart, and magic—just like the original—while introducing a new generation to the wizarding world.
‎Fans can catch the highly anticipated second season of Wizards Beyond Waverly Place on both Disney Channel and Disney+ starting this fall.
