HBO unveils key cast members for Harry Potter TV series including the Malfoys and the Dursleys
HBO has officially announced several pivotal additions to the cast of its much-anticipated Harry Potter television series, a faithful adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s iconic book saga. Among the newly revealed actors are those set to portray the Malfoy family and the Dursleys—two of the most recognizable families in the wizarding and muggle worlds.

The streaming giant has cast Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy, Johnny Flynn as Lucius Malfoy, and Bel Powley as Petunia Dursley. Daniel Rigby joins as the blustering Vernon Dursley, while Bertie Carvel takes on the role of Cornelius Fudge. Also joining the cast are Katherine Parkinson as Molly Weasley, Leo Earley as Seamus Finnigan, Alessia Leoni as Parvati Patil, and Sienna Moosah as Lavender Brown.
This new wave of castings follows HBO’s earlier announcement of the show’s core trio: Dominic McLaughlin (Harry Potter), Arabella Stanton (Hermione Granger), and Alastair Stout (Ron Weasley). The production is leaning into age-accurate portrayals, bringing characters closer in age to their book counterparts—particularly evident in the casting of the Dursleys, whose younger appearances align with the novels’ depiction.
Veteran actors are also taking on beloved roles. Emmy winner John Lithgow is stepping into the robes of Albus Dumbledore, with Janet McTeer portraying Professor McGonagall. Paapa Essiedu will become the enigmatic Professor Snape, while Nick Frost tackles Hagrid. Luke Thallon and Paul Whitehouse round out the Hogwarts staff as Professors Quirrell and Filch, respectively.
Set to stream globally on Max, including new markets like Turkey, Germany, and the U.K., the series will adapt each of Rowling’s seven books into individual seasons. HBO reaffirmed its commitment to authenticity and immersion, promising a “faithful adaptation” with “fantastic detail and much-loved characters” that aim to captivate both loyal fans and a new generation.
Francesca Gardiner serves as showrunner and executive producer, with Mark Mylod directing multiple episodes. J.K. Rowling, along with Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts, and David Heyman, will also executive produce—bringing together a creative team that blends original vision with new ambition.
