‎Initially, Trachtenberg’s cause of death was listed as “undetermined” on February 27 due to her family’s objection to an autopsy, according to the New York Post. However, further medical evaluation has now clarified the circumstances surrounding her passing.
‎Trachtenberg’s death, first confirmed on February 26 by Us Weekly, was not considered suspicious by authorities at the time. Police sources indicated no foul play was involved.
‎In the months leading up to her death, Trachtenberg had responded publicly to speculation about her appearance. In January 2024, after a fan commented on her Instagram post suggesting she looked unwell, Trachtenberg fired back, defending her health and denying having undergone plastic surgery. “I am happy and healthy. Check yourself haters,” she wrote, addressing ongoing scrutiny.
‎Michelle Trachtenberg began acting at a young age and became a household name with her lead role in Harriet the Spy (1996). ‎Throughout her career, Trachtenberg maintained close relationships with many of her co-stars. In 2020, she shared that she had recently dined with Gossip Girl alum Leighton Meester and praised her former castmates' continued success. Her bond with Buffy co-star Sarah Michelle Gellar also remained strong; in a 2021 interview, Trachtenberg reminisced about their decades-long friendship and moments from the set.
