Eva Longoria clarifies reason she moved out of the United States: 'It wasn't because of Donald Trump'

Eva Longoria has clarified her recent comments about transferring her family out of the "dystopian" United States and dividing their time in Mexico and Spain.

On Friday, the actress-producer-director suddenly contacted her friend and The View co-host Ana Navarro during a filming for the show's The View: Behind the Table podcast. After Navarro answered the phone, Longoria replied, "Please let them know I did not leave Spain because of [Donald] Trump."

Navarro went on to say that her buddy "had moved before Trump" was re-elected in the 2024 election earlier this month.

"I've been working in Europe for almost three years," Longoria revealed. "By the way, the [Marie Claire] article states that. People just grabbed some clickbait to be divisive, which makes me very sad. Everything you say is intended to be divisive when we cannot be that way right now."

Navarro added: "But you did tell me that living in Europe had been like shutting off the noise." The actress presently lives in Mexico and Spain with her husband, José Bastón, and their six-year-old son, Santiago. She also travels around Europe and South America for work, but she seldom returns to Los Angeles.

"Yeah, I mean, being away from the constant 24-hour news cycle puts you in a bit of a bubble, for sure," Longoria said, emphasizing that she left the United States for work. "That is why I am in Europe." I did not leave due to the political situation. I left since my job led me there."

Earlier this week, the Desperate Housewives star spoke with Marie Claire on why she moved her family out of the United States, citing a variety of reasons.

"I had my whole adult life here," Longoria told the magazine. "But even before the epidemic, things were shifting. The mood was different. And then COVID struck, pushing it over the brink. Whether it's homelessness or taxes — not that I want to bash California — it simply feels like this chapter in my life is over."

The Flamin' Hot filmmaker also stated that the recent presidential election, in which Trump defeated Kamala Harris, contributed to her conviction. "The shocking part is not that he won," she stated about Trump's triumph. "It's that a convicted criminal who spreads hatred might hold the highest post. … "If he keeps his promises, it'll be a scary place."

"I'm privileged," Longoria continued. "I get to escape and travel elsewhere. Most Americans aren't that fortunate. They'll be stranded in this dystopian nation, and my concern and anguish are for them."
