Megan Thee Stallion opens up about losing her mother in documentary trailer: 'I lost my sense of identity'

Megan Thee Stallion reflects on her mother's involvement in the beginning of her career and how she battled when her mother died in the teaser for her new documentary In Her Words, which will be available on Amazon Prime Video on October 31.

The teaser begins with Megan telling the camera, over footage of her performing, that she is canceling her gigs.

"I'm not having fun right now, and I don't want to do it," she replies. "And I feel like how could I be Megan Thee Stallion, and I'm not having fun."

The trailer then cuts back to an animated sequence of Megan growing up and her relationship with her mother.

"I wouldn't be here without my mom," she says. "My mother was like a gangsta rapper. I was thinking, 'When I get older, I really want to be like her.'"

But when her mother died in 2019, after Megan had established her career, she was "in shambles," as the "Savage" rapper says.

"I guess I completely forgot who I was. "And when life got crazy, I didn't have her," she says.

Megan opens up about her struggles in the aftermath of her mother's murder, describing "backlash," being shot by Tory Lanez, and "betrayal."

"I had really had like a real breakdown," she is depicted saying as she holds someone while crying.

She reveals that Megan Thee Stallion is attempting to protect her true self, Megan Pete, and that she wants people to understand her feelings.

"I want people to understand how this is affecting me," she adds over video of herself crying. "I want people to see how I feel."

The trailer concludes successfully, with fans expressing their love for her and Megan declaring, "I've been going through shit, but I've been getting through shit."
