In a cover story published Monday, September 9, Gomez was open about her desire to conceive a family with boyfriend Benny Blanco in the future. However, she admits that it will not "necessarily [be] the way I envisioned it."
"I have never said this," she told the publication. "Unfortunately, I am unable to carry my own children. I have a number of medical concerns that could jeopardize both my and the baby's lives. "That was something I had to mourn for a while."
"I expected it to happen the same way it does for everyone," said Gomez, who has been outspoken about her Lupus difficulties since confirming her diagnosis to Billboard in 2015. "That has greatly improved my situation. I consider it a godsend that there are amazing people willing to perform surrogacy or adoption, both of which are fantastic options for me."
"I'm excited for what that journey will look like, but it'll look a little different," she told me. "At the end of the day, I do not care. It will be mine. "It will be my baby."
The interview comes nearly four months after Blanco, who has been seeing the Rare Beauty entrepreneur since July 2023, said to Howard Stern that having children with his fiancée is his "next goal" in life. "It's always a topic of conversation with me every day," the producer added.
"He can't lie," Gomez told Vanity Fair, referring to her boyfriend's revealing radio program appearance. "I couldn't stop giggling after the interview. 'Anything else you wanted to put out there?'"
"I've never been loved this way," she added of Blanco. "He has just been a light. A total light in my life. He is my best friend. "I enjoy telling him everything."
The cover story comes at a busy time for Gomez, who recently reached billionaire status thanks to her beauty business, investments, and music and acting ventures, according to a Bloomberg report on September 6. She is currently nominated for a Best Actress Emmy for her performance in Only Murders in the Building, whose fourth season premiered on August 27, and she is receiving critical acclaim for her role in Jacques Audiard's Emilia Perez, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May and will be available on Netflix in November.
However, as she stated in the interview, her relationships are currently her top priority. "Before I met my boyfriend, I was single for five years, except for a few dates," she told the publication. "And I was like, 'OK, if this is the feeling, what is the most essential thing for me? Family.'"
