Sabrina Carpenter sets Netflix holiday program

Netflix will release a holiday variety music program featuring pop diva Sabrina Carpenter, the streaming service announced Thursday.

The show, A Nonsense Christmas with Sabrina Carpenter, was previewed in a new social media video, which featured the singer dressed in a sparkling Santa bodysuit. "Expecting someone else?" Carpenter addressed the camera in the footage.

"The holidays have always been so special to me," Carpenter said in a statement. "I am excited to bring my take to a classic holiday variety show, infusing my love of music and comedy to make something that is uniquely me."

Carpenter's variety music show will feature special guests as the singer plays songs from her 2023 Christmas EP Fruitcake, which inspired the special's name, as well as interpretations of legendary tunes. It will also have humorous guests and surprising cameos, according to the streamer.

"Sabrina's vision to subvert the classic holiday special has been clear since day one," executive producer and OBB CEO and founder Michael D. Ratner stated in a statement.

The program follows a successful year for the 25-year-old pop diva, who achieved her first No. 1 album and single with Short 'N Sweet and "Please Please Please," respectively, over the summer. Carpenter's latest single "Taste" premiered at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart last month, and it presently remains at No. 6.

Carpenter impressed fans last week at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards with a performance of her summer favorites "Please Please Please," "Taste," and "Espresso." She began her act from the sky on a swing. After being lowered to the stage, Carpenter was joined by an alien and an astronaut as they danced around a set resembling the moon in space. The artist also won song of the year for "Espresso."

OBB Pictures and At Last Productions co-produced A Nonsense Christmas with Sabrina Carpenter, with Carpenter, Michael D. Ratner, Scott Ratner, Simone Spira, and Kfir Goldberg for OBB and Bill Perlman and Janelle Lopez Genzink as executive producers.

The program will premiere exclusively on Netflix on December 6, at 9 p.m. eastern time.
