During the proceeding, prosecutors stated they had examined the singer’s iPhone and discovered what they described as a “significant amount” of child pornography. It remains unclear whether any of the material is connected to Celeste.
They also disclosed that a wiretap played a role in the investigation, noting it was conducted last year, though further details were not provided.
D4vd appeared in restraints and an orange jail uniform. Observers noted he remained composed, responding briefly and respectfully to the judge as she explained the process for the preliminary hearing.
His defense team, led by Blair Berk, argued that prosecutors had yet to provide key evidence. In response, L.A. County Deputy District Attorney Beth Silverman addressed the delay.
Prosecutors added that three separate investigative grand juries were convened, and transcripts from those proceedings are expected to be released at a later stage.
Earlier this week, D4vd entered a not guilty plea. His attorneys challenged prosecutors to present their evidence promptly, pushing for an immediate preliminary hearing.
In court Thursday, prosecutors indicated they would be prepared for the May 1 hearing and expressed a desire to move to trial within 60 days.
Authorities arrested D4vd last Thursday, and charges were filed Monday, including murder in connection with Celeste’s death, as well as allegations of lewd acts involving a minor under 14 and the mutilation of a human body.
According to prosecutors, Celeste died from multiple penetrating injuries inflicted with a sharp object. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner reported that her arms, legs, and two fingers were amputated.
The prosecution further alleges D4vd had an ongoing sexual relationship with Celeste when she was under 14. They claim that after she threatened to expose him and harm his music career, he invited her to his Hollywood Hills residence on April 23, 2025, where she was killed.
Prosecutors also contend he later dismembered her body, placed the remains into two bags, and stored them in the trunk of his car for more than four months as decomposition occurred.
