‎The project brings Tommy Shelby, played by Cillian Murphy, back into focus as the story moves to Birmingham, England, in 1940, marking 21 years since the character first appeared on screen. Netflix released the film’s full title, plot details and key art as part of its announcement.
‎The official synopsis states that Tommy Shelby is forced out of a self-imposed exile amid the turmoil of World War II. The story follows his return as he confronts what is described as his most destructive reckoning yet. With the future of his family and the country at a critical point, Shelby must face internal conflicts and decide whether to confront or erase his legacy.
‎The film is written by Steven Knight, creator of the original Peaky Blinders series, with Tom Harper attached as director. The title references the character’s continued presence beyond the conclusion of the series, which ended with Shelby faking his own death and riding away on a white horse.
‎The cast features a mix of returning and new talent. Alongside Cillian Murphy, returning cast members include Sophie Rundle, Stephen Graham, Packy Lee, Ned Dennehy, and Ian Peck. New additions to the ensemble include Rebecca Ferguson, Tim Roth, Barry Keoghan, and Jay Lycurgo.
