‎The series, adapted by Chris and Paul Weitz from Martha Wells’ Hugo and Nebula Award-winning Murderbot Diaries novels, stars Alexander Skarsgård as the title character—a security robot who secretly possesses free will. Tasked with protecting human clients during perilous missions, Murderbot secretly longs to be left alone, binge-watching futuristic soap operas and navigating its identity in a complex universe.
‎Produced by CBS Studios, Murderbot marks a standout addition to Apple TV+’s expanding lineup of original science fiction content. Showrunners and writers Chris and Paul Weitz bring their creative vision to the screen, shaping the adaptation with a keen respect for Wells’ source material. The duo also serves as executive producers alongside Andrew Miano of Depth of Field, with David S. Goyer and Keith Levine producing for Phantom Four. Martha Wells herself contributes as a consulting producer, ensuring the series remains faithful to her novels.
‎The supporting cast features notable talent including Noma Dumezweni, David Dastmalchian, Sabrina Wu, Akshay Khanna, Tattiawna Jones, and Tamara Podemski, enhancing the show's dynamic storytelling and immersive world-building.
‎Apple TV+ programming head Matt Cherniss praised the series, highlighting the team’s success in delivering a “brilliantly original, addictive, witty and vibrant adaptation” that has captured audiences’ imaginations globally. Season two is expected to delve deeper into Murderbot’s journey and explore new locations such as Sanctuary Moon, promising further character development and narrative depth.
