Miyamoto shared photos of Bragason and Ainsworth in costume, confirming their roles in the upcoming fantasy adventure. "I am pleased to announce that for the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda, Zelda will be played by Bo Bragason-san, and Link by Benjamin Evan Ainsworth-san,” Miyamoto wrote. “I am very much looking forward to seeing both of them on the big screen.”
The film is currently slated for a theatrical release on May 7, 2027, marking a significant milestone in the long-running journey to bring Hyrule’s tale to life in live-action.
Bo Bragason, a rising English actress, has built a growing resume with roles in BBC One’s Three Girls, Disney+’s Renegade Nell, and the crime drama The Jetty. Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, just 16 years old, is already known to audiences from his performances in The Haunting of Bly Manor on Netflix and Disney’s Flora & Ulysses, where he played William.
At the helm of the adaptation is director Wes Ball, whose recent success includes Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. The film draws its narrative from Nintendo’s acclaimed Legend of Zelda video game series, first introduced in 1986. The story follows young Link and Princess Zelda on a perilous mission to rescue the kingdom of Hyrule from the villainous Ganon.
Produced by Nintendo and Avi Arad’s Arad Productions, the movie will be distributed globally by Sony Pictures. Shigeru Miyamoto and Avi Arad are serving as producers, uniting their creative leadership to bring one of gaming’s most cherished sagas to the silver screen.
