‎The news was confirmed in a heartfelt statement by his wife, Kelly McMahon. “With an open heart, I wish to share with the world that my beloved husband, Julian McMahon, died peacefully this week after a valiant effort to overcome cancer,” she said. “Julian loved life. He loved his family. He loved his friends. He loved his work, and he loved his fans.”
‎Born in Sydney on July 27, 1968, McMahon was the son of Sir William “Billy” McMahon, Australia’s Prime Minister from 1971 to 1972. Before launching into acting, he initially gained recognition as a model. His on-screen journey began with the 1989 Australian soap The Power, the Passion, followed by a role on Home and Away from 1990 to 1991.
‎Hollywood took notice when McMahon moved to the United States and joined NBC’s daytime drama Another World in 1993. His breakout came as a regular on NBC’s Profiler, which solidified his place in American primetime television. Soon after, he became a fan-favorite on the WB’s supernatural series Charmed, where he portrayed the complex villain-turned-lover, Cole Turner.
‎It was his portrayal of Dr. Christian Troy in FX’s provocative drama Nip/Tuck that elevated him to leading-man status. The role earned McMahon a Golden Globe nomination and made him a household name. His nuanced performance as the charismatic yet flawed plastic surgeon resonated with audiences and critics alike.
‎Success continued with CBS’ FBI: Most Wanted, where McMahon led the series for three seasons as Special Agent Jess LaCroix. His commanding presence and emotional depth brought gravitas to the procedural drama, earning the respect of viewers and peers.
‎On the big screen, McMahon became widely known for playing Victor Von Doom in the 2005 and 2007 Fantastic Four films. His portrayal of the iconic Marvel villain remains a memorable part of early 2000s superhero cinema. His additional film work includes Premonition, RED, Paranoia, Swinging Safari, You're Not You, and recent titles The Surfer and The Supremes at Earl’s All-You-Can-Eat.
‎One of his final performances came in Netflix’s The Residence, where McMahon returned to his roots by portraying the Prime Minister of Australia—a symbolic full-circle moment that paid tribute to both his personal heritage and professional growth.
