What drove Kate Cassidy to leave Argentina before Liam Payne's shocking demise

Liam Payne remained in South America longer than intended.

According to his girlfriend Kate Cassidy, the couple wanted to visit for five days but ended up staying for two weeks, which is why she departed the continent days before the One Direction singer died tragically at the age of 31.

On October 14, she said that she had traveled back to Miami, while Payne remained behind.

"I was so ready to leave," Cassidy explained in a TikTok video. "Honestly, I enjoy South America, but I dislike remaining in one spot for too long. And we were scheduled to stay there for around five days, but it went into two weeks."

But why was Cassidy so eager to return to the United States? As she stated, "I was just like, 'I need to go home.'"

Cassidy, 25, had a "weird rash" before her flight owing to her "anxiety" about flying, but she arrived in Florida without complications.

"I was so happy to be home," she wrote on TikTok. "It was so relieving."

Liam died two days later after he fell from the third floor of a hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina, according to local medical staff.

Police received a 911 call from the same hotel in the afternoon "reporting an aggressive man who could be under the influence of drugs or alcohol," according to El Sistema de Atención Médica de Emergencias (SAME). Police did not say whether drugs were involved.

According to pictures surfacing on social media, Payne uploaded footage of his vacation to Argentina before passing away.

"Happy I got some time away," he commented on Snapchat, next to a snap of a lovely garden. Another video from his "lovely day in Argentina" showed him "just enjoying breakfast even though it's like 1 p.m." with Cassidy, whom he began seeing in 2022.

His final shot with her, released hours before his death, showed the two dressed for a day outside in swimsuits and hats, hugging in front of a mirror.
