Mbappe was in the process of recovering from a muscle injury when he traveled, a period that overlapped with Madrid’s 2-0 win against Espanyol. His absence from the squad led to questions about his professionalism, particularly regarding the timing of the trip alongside his partner. His entourage, however, has dismissed such concerns, insisting that the situation has been misinterpreted.

In comments shared via AFP and reported by Marca, his representatives clarified that the criticism is based on an exaggerated reading of events. They stressed that his rehabilitation is carefully managed by the club and does not reflect any lack of effort or commitment on his part.

Support for Mbappe has also come from head coach Alvaro Arbeloa, who downplayed the significance of the debate. He noted that players are entitled to spend their free time as they choose, emphasizing that Real Madrid’s values are rooted in hard work, determination, and consistent performances during matches.

The timing of the situation adds further significance, as Madrid prepare to face Barcelona in a crucial fixture. Mbappe’s injury originated during a 1-1 draw with Real Betis, with medical tests confirming damage to the semitendinosus muscle in his left leg. His absence has led to increased reliance on other attacking players within the squad.

Reports have additionally indicated a possible strain in his relationship with the technical staff, following his reaction to being substituted in the Betis game. Nevertheless, Mbappe continues to follow his recovery schedule, including individualized training even on rest days, as he works towards regaining full fitness.

In the meantime, Vinicius Junior has taken on a more prominent role, delivering two goals in the victory over Espanyol to postpone Barcelona’s title celebrations. Madrid are now awaiting clarity on Mbappe’s availability for Sunday’s clash at the Spotify Camp Nou, where only a win can stop their rivals from securing the La Liga crown.
