Real Madrid Rule Out Jurgen Klopp Despite Longstanding Interest

‎Speculation surrounding Jurgen Klopp and a potential move to Real Madrid has been dismissed, as the German is not part of the club’s plans to replace Alvaro Arbeloa. Despite persistent links to the Santiago Bernabeu, Klopp remains focused on his executive role with Red Bull.
‎Real Madrid are not considering Jurgen Klopp for their next manager, with the German focused on Red Bull duties and a long-term goal of leading Germany.

‎The managerial search at Madrid is underway following a challenging run of results under Arbeloa, who stepped in after Xabi Alonso. While numerous names have been mentioned in connection with the vacancy, reports suggest that several have not been formally discussed by the club. In some instances, Madrid’s name has been used externally to generate attention for certain candidates.
‎Although Klopp’s reputation continues to command global respect, he is not viewed as a suitable option for Madrid’s current needs. The club is concentrating on profiles that align closely with its tactical requirements for the upcoming 2026–27 season, adopting a careful and deliberate recruitment process.
‎The association between Klopp and Madrid has surfaced repeatedly over the years. It dates back to his time with Borussia Dortmund, particularly following their impressive performances in European competition in 2012. Despite consistent speculation, the Spanish giants have never taken concrete steps to appoint him.
‎Madrid have previously demonstrated patience when selecting a manager, notably when Carlo Ancelotti returned in 2021. That same approach is being applied again, with the board carefully weighing its options rather than rushing into a decision.
‎Klopp, for his part, has a clear long-term objective: leading the Germany national football team. While Julian Nagelsmann remains in charge until 2028, Klopp is widely regarded as a potential successor after the 2026 World Cup. Until then, he continues in his role overseeing Red Bull’s football operations.
‎After leaving Liverpool in 2024, Klopp has declined multiple opportunities to return to management, citing the demanding nature of club football. He has spoken about the strain associated with the role, making international management a more appealing future pathway.
‎Madrid are expected to confirm their next manager in the coming weeks as the domestic season nears its end. Arbeloa is likely to remain in charge for the final matches before the club finalizes its choice ahead of the summer period, with preparations already focused on the 2026 World Cup timeline.
‎At the same time, Klopp continues monitoring the progress of teams within the Red Bull system, including RB Leipzig and Red Bull Salzburg. His break from frontline coaching is set to last at least until the conclusion of the 2025–26 season.
