‎The French champions advanced to the decisive match after overcoming FC Bayern Munich 6-5 on aggregate in the semi-finals. PSG entered the second leg with a narrow advantage following a thrilling 5-4 victory in Paris before earning a 1-1 draw in Bavaria on Wednesday to seal qualification. Enrique’s side will now meet Arsenal F.C. in Budapest on May 30.
‎Following the achievement, Al-Khelaifi spoke highly of the former FC Barcelona coach and credited him for reshaping the identity of the club since arriving in 2023. The PSG chief believes the Spaniard has turned the squad into a disciplined and united collective capable of competing consistently at the top level of European football.
‎Speaking to CBS Sports Golazo, Al-Khelaifi called Enrique the greatest appointment of his tenure at PSG.
‎“Luis Enrique is truly our best asset, the best, my best decision,” he said. “I spoke with him for the last 15 years about signing him. He's a fantastic coach, the best coach in the world, but also as a person.”
‎The PSG chairman also praised Enrique’s management style and his handling of the daily responsibilities at the club.
‎“It’s incredible how he handles the day-to-day operations, the players, everything, even the media, which in France isn't always easy, but he's fantastic,” Al-Khelaifi added.
‎The club president further stated that Enrique’s impact has gone beyond Paris Saint-Germain and claimed the Spaniard has influenced football more broadly.
‎“It’s an honour to have Luis Enrique at the club, along with everyone who is making history. This is what we want. We have the DNA, and we proved it today. They aren't just footballers, they are true warriors,” he continued.
‎“He revolutionised football, not just at Paris Saint-Germain, but all of football. I'm very proud of him, and he truly is the best coach in the world.”
‎Inside the club, PSG officials reportedly view the atmosphere within the dressing room as one of the clearest signs of progress under Enrique. The squad is considered more connected, with players showing stronger commitment to teamwork and defensive organisation.
‎Al-Khelaifi highlighted the spirit within the group and the relationships among the players as major reasons behind their strong European campaign.
‎“How they work together, how they live together, how they defend on and off the field,” he explained. “I see them, I live with them, and that's what I love about the team: the fight, the passion, the enjoyment they show when they go to training, working together.”
‎“Sometimes it's not easy, but everyone supports each other. We're a family, and they are a family, the PSG family.”
‎Before taking on Arsenal in the Champions League final, PSG will complete their final three Ligue 1 fixtures as they continue their push for the domestic title. Their next league match will come against Stade Brestois 29 during the closing stretch of the campaign.
