‎In response, his agent Javier Pastore has stepped in to calm the situation. He made it clear that the speculation lacks substance and that the midfielder is not pursuing a move away from Chelsea FC. The timing of the reports added intrigue, coming shortly after the club addressed concerns over the player’s conduct.
‎Fernandez had been seen enjoying time at the Madrid Open alongside teammates Marc Cucurella and João Pedro, further fueling online discussion. However, Pastore emphasized that such appearances should not be misinterpreted as transfer signals.
‎He explained that the player’s connection to Madrid is rooted in personal relationships rather than professional intentions. Visits to the city are frequent during breaks, largely because of friendships and Pastore’s own presence there. According to him, there is nothing beyond that.
‎Pastore also addressed Fernandez’s mindset, underlining his focus on current responsibilities. The midfielder is determined to close out the season positively with Chelsea, while also preparing for international commitments. Any decisions about what comes next, he suggested, will be made in due course.
‎From a footballing perspective, Fernandez’s versatility remains a standout feature. Across different coaching setups, he has taken on varied roles. With Enzo Maresca, his positioning shifted higher up the pitch, whereas Liam Rosenior used him in a deeper midfield role. For Argentina, he has also contributed offensively, combining creativity with goal output.
‎Despite the agent’s reassurances, uncertainty lingers regarding the upcoming transfer window. Chelsea may be open to considering offers, particularly given the significant investment made when signing him from SL Benfica for £106.8 million. His contract, however, extends until 2032, placing the club in a strong negotiating position.
‎Meanwhile, interim manager Calum McFarlane recently highlighted Fernandez’s impact on the pitch. Reflecting on the FA Cup semi-final win over Leeds United, he praised the midfielder’s determination, describing him as a player capable of driving the team forward even in difficult phases of a match.
